About Me!

fareham/portsmouth based hypnobirthing instructor

Why should you chose me and my course?!

I am Sarah and by trade I am a registered mental health nurse which is ultimately talking for a living! I live near Portsmouth in Fareham. I worked for many years in mental health and built up lots of skills to enable me to support others in a part of their life that can feel really daunting! I loved my nursing job in mental health but I decided I needed a change and moved to the private sector, which whilst it helped me to learn a different skill set, is not really where my heart is.

After going on maternity leave to have my son, I found my LOVE for Hypnobirthing. This is way more up my street and allows me to get passionate again. I get to work closely with my lovely clients to support them in their birth journey! With my back ground in mental health nursing, it is so important to me to support people with their mental health and having a baby is by no means an easy feat on the emotional wellbeing of a person whose life is about to change forever!

I like to think of myself as a friendly, warm and chatty person. I have a good sense of humour, and will definitely try and involve this within my course to make some of the heavy parts feel a bit easier to digest! I will warn you, I have a bit of a potty mouth and the more I try and hold the swears in, the more they pop out! No offence is meant by any (usually)!

I feel passionately about wanting to pass on my knowledge and wisdom, to the people of Portsmouth(!) who are doing my course; simply because of amazing benefit that I got from mine! I honestly was TERRIFIED of birth, and with the help of Hypnobirthing I was totally able to change my headspace and mindset which I never would have thought could be possible. Whilst my birth at Portsmouth hospital wasn’t perfect, I know that it would have been a whole lot different without the course under my belt. There was certain things I felt very absolute about, and because of Hypnobirthing I was able to ensure they stuck. The goal is to see others be able to get that positive birth experience too, however that may look for them!

Sadly, and for multiple reasons, research has shown ‘women do not always feel like the choice is theirs and that too often they felt pressured by their midwives and obstetricians to make choices that fitted their services…’ (National maternity review, 2016). This is a devastating quote to read, and it is so important that women do not feel like this. Taking my course enables me to help reduce people living in and around Portsmouth from looking back at their birth with regret. I can’t promise that your birth will go to plan, and it would be silly to think after doing Hypnobirthing you have some kind of guarantee. The point of this course is giving you the skills and the education to advocate for yourself and to be informed in choices you are faced with. Its about you feeling in control. All of the research into birth trauma found that those who experienced high levels of this, were the ones who felt they didn’t get a say and were coerced or forced into things they didn’t want. Let me help you feel able to be in control.

What I love about hypnobirthing is that what you learn in the course isn’t just limited to birth as a circumstance, you can use the skills for ANYTHING! I’ve found myself using relaxation skills in the supermarket when some donut has pushed in front of you but you don’t want to cause a scene. The BRAIN skill was the perfect tool to use when the car garage tried to tell me that my car need 2k worth of works done after the MOT! And even better, the positive affirmations were a god send when I started teaching hypnobirthing and was terrified that I couldn’t achieve my goal…

So a bit more about my life…. I’m a mum to my little boy Alfie who was born in April 2023. I’ve got a gorgeous step-daughter, Alana, who is almost a teenager (!). And I have my beloved Roxy - our 4yr old Boxer dog. I live together with my boyfriend, Dean, Alfie and Roxy with Alana coming to stay on the weekends.

I didn’t used to think I wanted children but as I got older I changed my mind. I wasn’t a particularly maternal person but since Alfie was born, I’ve changed so much! I’m not that cliche mum who misses him as soon as he’s gone and looks at pictures and videos of him once he is in bed…! For fun I love doing outdoorsy things, whatever this might be. My boyfriend and I have a campervan and this has given us so much freedom. We enjoy last minute spontaneous trips to local campsites just to change the scenery. We are lucky down where we live that there is so much beauty on out doorstep. I did in and out of running. My biggest running achievement was a trail run in Winchester of 15 miles! Very proud moment right there! I used to love a drink in the pub, but with a toddler keeping me on my toes, it is not often I get to enjoy this nowadays!

Anyway, thats enough of me waffaling! I would love to get the chance to chat to you and say hey! Please feel free to get in touch with any questions about what I do, however I will be able to help you! Catch me over on my socials to get to know me a bit better;
